As the year draws to a close, anyone with a wedding on the horizon next spring is no doubt already deep in the planning and preparation stage. After a strange and unpredictable couple of seasons, what can those aiming to get hitched in 2022 expect? Here’s a round up of the biggest predictions.

Rented wedding dresses

One of the most frequently reported trends is the rise in the hired wedding dress. After Boris Johnson’s wife Carrie tied the knot in a boho lace number by Greek designer Christos Costarellos, Tatler reported that the dress was rented. Its retail value is estimated to be £2,870, but the dress was hired for the day at a cost of just £45.

For some brides, renting a gown is an economical solution to the dilemma of having to pay a considerable amount for a dress they will only wear once. For others, the thrill of choosing and buying a fairytale dress that they will keep for the rest of their lives is all part of the big occasion!

Regency era fashions

Inspired by the hit TV show Bridgerton, Hitched reports that Regency-style weddings are going to be big next year. This look ties in with the still popular cottagecore trend, with its nostalgic referencing of the past. The calming blue pastel shades, delicate empire-line dresses, and vintage vibe are the perfect antidote to the present era.

Off-beat entertainment

After two years of minimal opportunities to celebrate, people are looking for ways to really make the event memorable, Hitched reports. Music will take centre stage, with growing demand for live bands and dancefloor space. More unusual entertainment, such as circus performers, petting zoos, and temporary tattoo parlours are also proving popular.
